Since December 2016, the pay slips of state public service agents have been gradually digitized. For teachers, the ENSAP platform (Secure Digital Space for Public Agents) centralizes access to these documents. However, not all staff in the National Education system follow the same process, and this distinction regularly causes blockages.
Teacher pay slip according to status: permanent, trainee, or contractual
The first reflex when looking for a pay slip is to connect to ensap.gouv.fr. This portal indeed works for permanent and trainee civil servants paid by the state. Pay slips appear there a few days after the salary is paid, usually between the 27th and 29th of the month.

For contractual teachers, the situation is different. Their remuneration may go through another management circuit, depending on the academy and the type of contract. Some contractual teachers can access ENSAP, while others must obtain their pay slip directly from the rectorate or the academic management service. Feedback from the field varies on this point: a permanent contract teacher in one academy may not have the same experience as a renewed fixed-term contract teacher in another.
Before attempting to connect, it is essential to know precisely how to obtain a teacher’s pay slip based on their administrative status. Choosing the wrong portal wastes time, and academic HR services do not always respond quickly during payroll periods.

ENSAP access: account creation and secure connection
Registration on ensap.gouv.fr relies on three pieces of information: the social security number, last name, and date of birth. Once these elements are validated, the system asks to confirm four digits from the bank account details to activate the “Remuneration” section. This step of verifying the bank details sometimes blocks new registrants who do not have their bank statement on hand.
Subsequent connection is through FranceConnect or using the credentials created during registration. FranceConnect simplifies the process by using the same credentials as those for impots.gouv.fr or the Health Insurance.
One point to check: some academies do not immediately activate the “Remuneration” section for new agents. If the section remains empty after registration, it does not mean that the account is faulty. Sometimes, you have to wait for the next payroll cycle for the pay slips to appear.
Consulting and downloading your pay slip on the portal
Once logged in, the “My pay slips” section provides access to the history of pay slips in PDF format. Each document is electronically signed, giving it a legal value equivalent to that of a paper slip.
The interface allows you to:
- View each slip month by month, with details of the salary, allowances, and contributions
- Download the PDF for personal archiving on a computer, tablet, or phone
- Print directly from the browser for processes requiring a physical document
Pay slips are archived on ENSAP throughout the career and for up to five years after retirement. This retention period covers needs related to career reconstructions, mortgage applications, or tax verifications. The annual tax certificate is also available in the same space.
What to do if a slip is missing on ENSAP
Pay slips prior to December 2016 are not available on the platform. For earlier periods, you must contact the personnel management service of your academy or the former public employer.
If a recent pay slip does not appear within the usual timeframe, the most common cause is a delay in the payroll processing. A change of academy, a transfer, or a switch to part-time work can delay the availability of the document by a few days.

What changes on the teacher’s pay slip in 2026
The teacher’s pay slip is evolving with the gradual implementation of complementary social protection (PSC). New contribution lines are appearing on the slips, altering the presentation of the net amount. This reform affects all agents of the state public service, not just teachers.
Specifically, the slip now displays deductions related to complementary health insurance and, eventually, to provident insurance. The gross salary remains unchanged, but the net payable may vary slightly compared to previous months. To read these new lines correctly, it is necessary to distinguish:
- The indexed salary, calculated according to the grid and the coefficient related to the grade
- The allowances (ISOE, residence allowance, family supplement) that are added to the salary
- The mandatory contributions, including the recent PSC line
- The net amount before and after withholding tax
The available data do not yet allow for measuring the precise impact on the monthly net for each level of the grid. However, teacher unions (SNUipp, SNEP-UNSA) have published detailed analyses of these changes on their respective websites.
Archiving pay slips: an underestimated precaution
Downloading your pay slip each month and storing it on a personal device remains a good practice, despite the long archiving on ENSAP. A signed PDF stored locally protects against temporary unavailability of the portal.
Teachers who change public service (moving from the Ministry of National Education to another ministry or to local government) sometimes lose seamless access to their history. Having a local copy of each pay slip avoids requests for duplicates, which can take several weeks from the management services.
The signed PDF format is accepted by banks, landlords, and administrations just like an original paper document. No additional certification is required for the document to be acceptable.
